Microsoft Exchange Connectivity test check

Microsoft
Wanted to share a great tool from Microsoft (I sound like it's a sponsored tutorial) which has helped me a great deal in troubleshooting costumers migration from GSuite to Exchange Online. To be honest, my problem was with the Outlook Autodiscover feature and this tool put me in the right direction. Btw, Autodiscover service is to establish initial connections to Exchange user mailboxes. Tool is called Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer and you can visit it here -> https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com/ This tool is not just for Microsoft Exchange tests, it also includes troubleshooting for Lync, Office365 etc. Be sure to have all the right usernames and passwords.

Migrate G Suite email to Microsoft Exchange Online

Microsoft
Although the procedure is looking a bit of complex, it really isn't if you follow the official steps provided by Microsoft BUT there is always a BUT. https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Migrate-G-Suite-mailboxes-to-Office-365-665dc56c-581c-4e35-8028-6bc1e8497016 First, I used this guide on migrating and I must warn you to be meticulous about it because you have to read and do the steps very carefully. [wp_ad_camp_1]   ***The only thing that was missing was to allow less secure apps to get connected to GSuite and I got to that information via Google (not official documentation).*** Additional, the process of syncing could take even a few hours since the official Google bandwith limit for IMAP is 2500MB per day. It is a cool feeling when you succeed in this kind of data migration!

How to extend your activation grace period on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 or 2008 R2?

Microsoft
Sometimes I need to configure a test Windows virtual machine and use it for only for a week or two. Well if you are using a Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 OS like me and you have only 3 days till activation then continue in reading this post:) There are two things to configure and they are not so complicated.   [wp_ad_camp_1]   1) Disable automatic activation with the use of registry editor like in the picture below.                           Visit this path in the registry editor (Run>regedit): HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform\Activation. Edit or create a DWORD "Manual" value with a value data of 1. 2) Now reset the evaluation period by entering slmgr.vbs -rearm in the command prompt (Run As…

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 as NTP server for Cisco devices

Cisco, Microsoft
I wanted to use in my test environment an NTP server on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 that would function as a syncing point for my Cisco routers and switches. The starting issue is that Cisco devices will not sync with Windows integrated NTP server and the reason is that Windows use SNTP as network time protocol.       [wp_ad_camp_1]   SNTP basically provides the same features as NTP, but uses a simpler algorithm to calculate the difference in time between the two network devices. Because of this algorithm, SNTP is less accurate than NTP where on the other side it uses fewer system resources. It is better and recommended to use SNTP on i.e. mobile devices and some consumer level apps where time can be a little off.…

Turn proxy on or off script for Microsoft Windows

Microsoft
Here I want to share a script that my friend selflessly shared with me:) In a nutshell this script detects on which network you are connected and then turns the proxy on or off. The only thing you need to change is the value ("172.") in the "isproxynetworkip" line. This value defines what kind of IP address you use when connected to the network that needs proxy turned on (e.g. at work).     [wp_ad_camp_1]   Copy and save the script as a .vbs file. ------------------------------------------------------------ Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell") temp = "select IPAddress from Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration "& _ "where IPEnabled=TRUE" temp2 = "winmgmts:{impersonationLevel=impersonate}" TempReg = "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ProxyEnable" set IPConfigSet = GetObject(temp2).ExecQuery(temp) isproxynetwork = 0 isproxynetworkip = "172." currentipaddress = "Not present" currentipaddress1 = "Not present" for each IPConfig in IPConfigSet…

Turn on GUI from command line in Windows Server 2012

Microsoft
In the installation process of Windows Server 2012 you are given a choice  would you like to install the Server Core Installation or the Server with the GUI. A great feature is that we are given a possibility to revert back and forth between a GUI and the non GUI...     [wp_ad_camp_1]   We have to use Powershell for this and I recommend that you get pretty comfortable with it - I am also trying:) We will start with the GUI edition and convert it to a full Core version without the GUI. In Powershell type:   Wait a moment...     After the completion a restart will be needed.       After restart and a successful login only a command line prompt window will show. Type "Powershell"…

Add or remove persistent (static) routes in Microsoft Windows.

Microsoft
Adding a static route to your Windows routing table is pretty easy. Just use an elevated command prompt (Run as administrator-where needed) and type the following example: route -p add 10.11.12.13 255.255.255.255 10.11.12.14 metric 3 if 2 The "-p" argument is important if you want your route to be here when you reboot (persistent). You should be familiar with arguments "metric" and "if" if you are using this commands. A good starting point is HELP for this command. Type "route add --help". [wp_ad_camp_1] To check your result type "route print" and it should be under "Persistent routes" section.       To remove or to delete an entry, type this: "route -p delete 10.11.12.13"     The "p" argument is also important as it concerns the Persistent Routes table, otherwise…

How to activate GodMode in Microsoft Windows 7?

Microsoft
GodMode sounds pretty powerful and it is! This is just a plain Windows folder that brings together a long list of customization settings with which you can change all of your settings from one place in Windows 7. Since it's very easy to enable it, just follow this step(s) to do it: 1. Create a new folder (where ever you want) named "GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}" (remove quotes)  and that's it! [wp_ad_camp_1] The folder will automatically change it's icon to a blue monitor looking like this:               Double-click it and I can tell that once you go GodMode, you won't go back:) [wp_ad_camp_1]

Sync Firefox on multiple computers

Microsoft, Misc
In this short post I will share with you how you can use Firefox on all your computer devices that run a Microsoft OS (mobiles are excluded). I don't have Firefox Sync option enabled but I rather have a portable Firefox distribution that is accessible to me via Dropbox. Just put your Firefox portable in your Dropbox account and that's it! And if you're concerned about your security (like me:) than you can easily use a free open-source disk encryption software for Windows 7/Vista/XP called TrueCrypt but I will write my next post about that option. Change Wifi adapter MAC address on Windows 7

Microsoft
Changing your hardware address can be a pain in the Microsoft world. Because of some wireless testing purposes I needed to change my built in hardware address or MAC (media access control) address in my Windows 7 distribution.       [wp_ad_camp_1] I will not go into what is the MAC address (you should be familiar with this term if you are reading something like this), I presume your first thought about this is: "He has to change his MAC address because he is doing something baaad:) Well, there could be a number of legitimate reasons why would you change your built in hardware address. Maybe your computer died which was connected directly to the ISP and that address was needed to authenticate or identify you or maybe you are…
